Minutes 1990-12-10 Community Service Committee

ROTARY CLUB OF HASTINGS

MINUTES OF THE COMMUNITY SERVICE COMMITTEE HELD ON 10 DECEMBER AT 5.15 PM AT R.S.A. CLUB READING ROOM.

PRESENT: John Eddington (Chairman), Ian Cameron and Alan Scott

APOLOGIES: Hans Anderson [Andersen], Brian Atkins, Keith Brazier, Ray Custance, Simon Gale and Bryan Hutchinson.

MINUTES: The minutes of the previous meeting were approved.

MATTERS ARISING:

Te Mata Park: John Eddington, Hans Anderson, Keith Brazier and Ray Custance met with D.G. Jim Judd plus two representatives from the Te Mata Park Trust Board, Roy Peacock and Elizabeth Carr at Te Mata Park on Sunday 9 December.

The group felt that a new sign (larger than present sign) should be located near the entrance to the “Kiwani” Car Park.

The group agreed Rotary have a marble plaque prepared for fixing to a rock adjacent to the Rotary Redwood Plantation.

Te Mata Trust Board would agree to Rotary Clubs combining and carrying out a tree planting project in the park. Ray Custance has since discussed the matter with the Department of Conservation who are willing to advise, although they do warn there are hazards in planting trees in that area.

Haden and Custance have offered to assist with the steel fabrication of the proposed new sign. The offer was gratefully acknowledged.

HASTINGS LADIES PROBUS CLUB: Preparations are underway and an interest meeting is proposed for March/April.

J.R. MCKENZIE TRUST: The trust has loaned the club a 25 minute video.  It’s possible use is being considered.

SENIOR CITIZENS: An outing for Senior Citizens will be held on Saturday 2 March 1991. It will include a bus tour and afternoon tea at Twyford.

TOWN/COUNTRY MEETING: No report, but it is desirable the committee finalise a programme at the February meeting.

GOLF TOURNAMENT: Planning underway and on schedule.

CORRESPONDENCE: John advised that Directors have agreed to meet the cost of supplying two gas heaters for Parentline Office.  Has been covered in newsletter.

H.B. CULTURAL TRUST: A letter was received requesting a donation to the H.B. Exhibition Centre Redevelopment.

While sympathetic to the project the committee felt the request was beyond the resources of our Club and will accordingly refer the letter back to Directors.

NEXT MEETING: To be held at the R.S.A Club on Monday 11 February at 5.15 PM.
