Minutes 1995-04-26 Directors

MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE DIRECTORS OF THE HASTINGS ROTARY CLUB IN THE OFFICES OF TONG AND PERYER, St. AUBYN STREET, HASTINGS ON WEDNESDAY 26th APRIL, 1995 at 5.15pm.

Present:   President John Peryer (Chair), David Davidson, Ian Cameron, Craig Kilgour, Tony Cross, Merv. Lewis, Derek Faulkner, Alaisdair [Alasdair] Shaw and Derek Burns.

Apologies:   John Dent, Mike Boyce, Bryon Higgens [Higgins], Bill Robertson, Graeme Richardson, Kevin Williams. These apologies were sustained on the motion of Craig seconded David.

MINUTES:   The minutes of the previous meeting were circulated at the meeting, read and confirmed. Moved Craig seconded Tony.

MATTER ARISING:   President John advised the Hastings Golf Club had confirmed the date of 29th January, 1996 for our next charity golf tournament.

CORRESPONDENCE: Inwards: –
Marsden Publications, seeking entries for their booklet “240 Clubs in Hastings and nearby”, agreed no action be taken.
Remuera Rotary Diabetes Prevention Trust – newsletter No. 10.
Rick Barker – thanks for his appointment as an Honary [Honorary] Member.
Northern Intregrated [Integrated]Teacher Education project – seeking funds, agreed this request be given to the Community Service committee to investigate.
Roger Miller – District Youth Exchange chairman re our club’s involvement with an exchange student.
Stuart Anderson requesting leave of absence 25 April to 20 June.
David Davidson requesting leave of absence 6th to 20th June.
These two requests for leave of absence were approved on the motion of Craig seconded Tony.

There was no outward correspondence. Inwards correspondence was received moved Merv seconded David.

TREASURERS REPORT:   In the absence of John Dent, President John reported there is now one subscription outstanding. Finance – the funds on hand are much the same as for the previous month.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

VOCATION:   Tony reported the wine visit was good but the bad weather caused several cancellations.

INTERNATIONAL:   No report.

R.Y.L.A. G.S.E etc:   No report

YOUTH:   Derek Faulkner reported –
The Graham [Graeme] Dingle programme seeking funds. It was agreed on the motion of Derek seconded Craig that the proceeds from a sergeants session be given to this programme.
Two schools seeking resource kits for programmes we had previously supported. Agreed no action be taken as each school was only requiring $45.
Outward Bound – a personal report for Karen Thompson who recently attended has been received.
Mandy Leslie seeking support to attend Outward Bound, agreed this application be given to the incoming Youth Committee.
Conrad Hailes seeking financial support to attend the World Speed Skating championships. It was thought the Havelock North Rotary Club could be the club to assist Mr Hailes.

Committee Reports (contd.)

COMMUNITY SERVICE:   No report.

CLUB SERVICE:   Craig reported no meeting had been held in April.
Jim Hurford has agreed with his nomination going forward as the clubs Vice President.
Cynthia Kirk has agreed to be the Vocation Committee chairman.
On Craig’s recommendation it was agreed our Club elections for President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer be held on Tuesday 9th May following publication in the bulletin.

OVERSEAS EXCHANGE STUDENT: OUTWARDS:-
Craig reported on a recent interview that had been conducted with an applicant. The interview committee did not support the application. President John offered to advise the applicant of this, agreed.

CLUB AUCTION:   President John reported that Brian Epplett had suggested the auction date be deferred to 24th June. This request was approved.

OVERSEAS EXCHANGE STUDENT: INWARDS:
President John reported that the club is short of two host families were we to accept an incoming student.
It was felt that members are probably not conversant with the requirements of hosting a student.
It was agreed David speak to members at our next luncheon meeting explaining the hosting programme.
The meeting closed at 6.40pm with a vote of thanks to the chair and thanks to President John for the refreshments.
