Napier City Centre Map After 1931 Earthquake

A Key to Napier’s Future Business and Shopping Area

THE INTENDED LOCATIONS OF VARIOUS BUSINESSES WHEN THEY RETURN TO PERMANENT PREMISES are shown on the plan of the main business area of Napier reproduced above.  The fact that so many businesses have already reached a decision as to where they will move to is a matter for every gratification, and a glance will show that the greater majority of the sections in the area will be covered by occupied buildings.  The fact that the name of any business does not appear on the plan may be taken to suggest that no decision has yet been reached as to its ultimate location.  In a number of cases where negotiations with tenants have not been finalised, no indication of the probable occupiers of the premises has been given, and the section is shown with merely the owner’s name.  The plan relates to ground floor premises only.  The large letters (A, B, C, D, etc.) are placed on sections which, on the plan, were too small to permit the printing of the names of all businesses which will be located there, and a key appears below.
