The New Zealand Singing School Trust was formed in 1978 by a group of Hawke’s Bay singers (who also founded the Hawke’s Bay Song and Opera Workshop) who recognised the need to further develop their talents and interest by inviting well known tutors to teach at a “Summer School” focussed on adults with singing experience. These Schools soon attracted singers, and teachers from all over the country and beyond. The Schools are now held every two years and have developed into a successful and engaging format involving master classes, lectures, ensemble singing and acting with participation of students in a range of informal and formal concerts. This School is the only residential school of this type in Australasia. It enables students to study intensively with renowned tutors and accompanists, and to use the performance opportunities to refine their art at a professional level.

The School still relies extensively on the generosity of volunteers who provide their expertise and time to organise and fundraise for each School.

Further information about this biennial School can be found on our website:

MAKE A LASTING IMPRESSION

Every one of the Singing Schools has relied very heavily on Hawke’s Bay volunteers who put in thousands of hours (that is no exaggeration) every two years to organise and then run each School. A good deal of that time is spent on fundraising so student fees can be kept at affordable levels. To give you some idea of what is involved, for this School the Trust fundraised over $90,000 provided by individuals, businesses, Trusts and others in both cash and “in kind” services. You may be able to help the Trust:

Donations of any amount are very gratefully received, and

A bequest in your Will would help on an ongoing basis (especially if the Trust could establish a fund to provide sufficient income to pay for an Administrator for the School).

If you wish to discuss how you might help the Trust please speak with any of the Trustees or email: [email protected]

New Zealand National Singing School Trust is registered under the Charitable Trusts Act 1957 and as a charity under the Charities Act 2005, CC30934, see www .charities.govt.nz
