HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE TOURIST

Lake Waikaremoana.

“The sea or rippling waters” generally regarded as the most beautiful lake in the North Island. Sparkling streams course through the native bush which surrounds the star-shaped expanse of water. Some of the streams terminate in waterfalls, the Mokau and Aniwaniwa Falls being the most picturesque. Waikaremoana offers walks, launch excursions and excellent fishing in season. A place for the tourist to revel in unspoiled New Zealand scenery.

Napier, Hastings.

These cities are in the centre of the “Riviera” of New Zealand. Modern and sunny, Napier is a city of gardens and palms. A notable feature of this sea-side city is its Marine Parade, the two-mile esplanade devoted entirely to formal gardens and public amenities. Napier is the centre of the Hawke’s Bay Province, a prosperous district of farmlands, vineyards and friendly people.

Hastings, another garden city, is the focal point of the rich Heretaunga Plains. The event of the year in Hastings is the Blossom Festival, a springtime display of Hawke’s Bay prosperity.

Greenmeadows Game Farm.

A unique opportunity to see the almost extinct Kiwi at close quarters. This game farm is a popular attraction for visitors from all parts of the world. It is noteworthy for its unusual activity of rearing the Kiwi, gamebirds and trout. Only 4½ miles from Napier.

Hot Springs.

Thermal resorts are situated at Morere and Te Puia. These interesting springs are in attractive reserves with facilities for bathing, tennis and golf.

Coastal Scenic Drive.

The Bay of Plenty – East Cape Scenic Drive takes in the best of this beautiful countryside. It is a drive of contrasts. Here are breathtaking views, harmonious farmland vistas, wild, rocky coastlines, secluded bays, spacious surf beaches. The East Cape is a wonderful stretch of coastline, beckoning the sportsman with its promise of excellent sea fishing and camping spots. Summer resorts along the coast provide ideal swimming and surfing conditions. An unforgettable scenic tour.

Cape Kidnappers Gannet Sanctuary.

4-5 miles walk around the coast from Clifton, Hawke’s Bay terminates in a spectacular headland — the site of the only mainland gannet sanctuary in the world.
