$10,000 birthday treat

Winning $10,000 in the Hastings retailers’ shopping spree promotion on Saturday was the best birthday present June Lewis could have wished for.

The retired Havelock North woman celebrated her birthday the day before the draw.

On Saturday she was watching races on television when the competition promoter Russel Fawcett phoned with the good news.

“I was so shocked that I said to him excuse me, young man, while I sit down for a moment. I was extremely excited and couldn’t stop shaking for ages. My husband, Gwynn was playing bowls at the time and he couldn’t believe it either.”

“This is the sort of thing which seldom happens in a lifetime. We have never won anything like this before.”

Mrs Lewis, who received her winning ticket after making purchases from either Underground Fashions or New World, has already decided on how to spend her winnings.

“We are hoping to have a holiday with family in Australia and I’d also like a diamond ring.”

She was to begin her shopping spree today.
