Newspaper Article 1896 – Ernest Nelson

The only things that happened to mar the day’s enjoyment were the terrible downpour of rain in the forenoon and two accidents in the Hunters’ jumping competition. Mr Ernest Nelson rode Satanella in this competition, and after successfully negotiating all the jumps, the mare jumped the brush too close to the rails with which she collided and broke Mr Nelson’s right leg a little above the ankle. Drs Milne and Dawson, who happened to be on the ground, had Mr Nelson conveyed home, and then set the leg. Luckily the break was a clean one, but it will be several weeks before Mr Nelson will be about again. The second accident happened to Mr E. M. Lewis, the owner of Monk.
