1907 Hastings library

A photograph of the Hastings Public Library built with a Carnegie grant in 1907 and destroyed in the 1931 earthquake is part of an exhibition on the 18 libraries US millionaire Andrew Carnegie financed in New Zealand. Twelve still stand. The Knowledge is Power exhibition is at the National Library Gallery until October 20. Also on show in Wellington are watercolours by Christopher Aubrey and personal papers of New Zealand writers.
