WEDDINGS.
A quiet wedding was solemnised at Christ Church, Ellerslie, on Wednesday afternoon, May 8, when Esme Guyon, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Purchas, of Lynton, Penrose, was married to Philip Leslie Bruce, eldest son of the Rev. Canon Arthur and Mrs. Williams, of Te Aute, Hawke’s Bay. The service, which was fully choral, was performed by the father of the bridegroom, assisted by the Rev. R. J. Stanton, vicar of the parish, and the Rev. C. B. Seton, vicar of Otahuhu. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a graceful ankle-length frock of parchment coloured chenille georgette, simply made on classical lines. Her veil of deep cream tulle, finished with heavy tassells, which toned with the frock, was worn over a juliet cap of lace, and she carried a bouquet of cream autumn shaded roses. Two bridesmaids were in attendance, Miss Constance Martin, and Miss Kathleen Marshall, both dressed alike in ankle-length frocks of corn-coloured georgette, made with the uneven hem lines and finished with touches of appliqued velvet of a deeper shade. Their picture felt hats, which toned with their frocks, were turned back from the face and finished with a buckle. Their bouquets were of autumn tinted roses. Also in attendance were little Barbara Wilkie and Teddy Eliott, the former wearing a frock of corn-coloured frilled georgette and large felt hat to tone, and she carried a posy of autumn tinted roses. Mr Eliott [Eliot] Cutten carried out the duties of best man.
