WAIKOKO BOUGHT

AN ENTHUSIASTIC DECISION.

LARGE MEETING UNANIMOUS.

A unanimous decision to buy the Waikoko Estate from Nelsons, Ltd., for £5500 was made at a special general meeting of the Hawke’s Bay A. and P. Society’s members at the Tomoana Showgrounds this week. The motion was proposed by Mr J.H. Macniven, president of the society, and seconded by Mr G.A. Maddison, Mayor of Hastings.

There was no dissent to the proposal that the society’s offer for the property should be confirmed, and the meeting, which was largely attended, was extremely enthusiastic.

Reference to the prominent part played in Hawke’s Bay by the late Mr William Nelson was made at the annual general meeting this week, of the Hawke’s Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Society by the president, Mr J.H. Nacniven. “I looked upon Mr Nelson as the father of Hawke’s Bay,” he said. “We owe the importance of the freezing industry of Hawke’s Bay to him, and he was also noted for the excellent quality of stock raised by him.” Mr Macniven added that the late Mr Nelson sold the society its show grounds at Tomoana at a very fair price, and since shifting the grounds there from Hastings the society had never looked back.
