Newspaper Article 1939 – L McCarthy

L. McCarthy, of the Hastings High School Old Boys Club has scored 100 points in the present Rugby season. Known as a particularly fine kicker, McCarthy has earned most of these points off his boot by some really remarkable efforts. On Saturday, before the game with N.H.S.O.B. he wanted 10 points to secure his century. He earned exactly that number during the game, thereby being the first player in the competition to reach this imposing figure.

Including the Dannevirke game last week, his grand total for season 1939 is 103 points – a great record! (On the picture page is a scene of McCarthy taking the kick which gave him his 100).
