Newspaper Article 1945 – Her Worship the Mayor?

HER WORSHIP THE MAYOR?

WOODVILLE breaks into news with the candidacy for mayoral honours of Mrs. H. P. Horne, an election made necessary by the resignation of R. R. Johnston who is seriously indisposed.  The enterprising lady is the wife of a former mayor and elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Nelson of “Laureston,” Woodville.  As mayoress for a few years Mrs. Horne also gained insight into the duties and responsibilities of the chief civic office. She has had considerable public experience as she has piloted most of the good causes of the town. To mention a few of her activities: she has served in various capacities on the Plunket committee (for 10 years as president), also as chairman of the sub-centre of the Crippled Children Society, president and secretary of Holy Trinity Church Ladies’ Guild, the Women’s Institute, the Patriotic Committee and chairman of the W.W.S.A.
