Newspaper Article 1954 – Hastings Has Proud Record

Hastings Has Proud Record

The distinction of serving for 25 years and gaining the coveted gold star award is the natural ambition of most fire-brigadesmen in New Zealand. Lately the Hastings Fire Brigade held an unusual function when it honoured no fewer than six members who had gained the award. They were Chief Fire Officer L. R. G. Harlen, Deputy-Chief R. A. Colwill, Station Officer G. N. Muir and Firemen F. Horton, S. Ellis and M. Tong. In the long history of fire brigades in the Dominion about 1,050 men have gained the coveted award.
