Newspaper Article 1957 – Obituary – Beatrice Mackersey 1957

Mrs. L. J. Mackersey

The death occurred on Saturday [31 August 1957] of a well-known and respected resident of Hastings, Mrs Beatrice Awdrey Mackersey, aged 67 years, the wife of Mr. Lindsay John Mackersey.

Mrs. Mackersey, the second daughter of Mr. E. A. Hoylind [Hoyland], an English shipowner, was born in Kensington, London, in 1889. She came to New Zealand in 1920 and was married in December of the same year in St. Matthew’s Church, Hastings.

She was a member of the women’s section of the R.S.A. for many years, a member of the British Women’s Overseas Club – and an executive member for a time – and played violin in the Hastings Orchestral Society until it was disbanded.

Mrs. Mackersey is survived by her husband and four children, Mrs. Mary Boyd (Wellington), John Charles Mackersey (Hastings), Mrs. Joan Hoylind Richmond (Valley Road), and Godfrey Lindsay Mackersey (Tauranga).
