Overseas Club Holds Beetle Drive

The June meeting of the British Women’s Overseas Club was held in St. Matthew’s Hall, Hastings. The president, Mrs Wainscott, welcomed a new member, and presented a small farewell gift to Mrs David Beal who is leaving the district to reside in the South Island.

Entertainment during the evening took the form of a beetle drive. The winner was Mrs Irvine and Miss Horne gained a consolation prize. Mrs Stuart was the holder of the lucky cup, and another prize was won by Miss [Mrs] E. Prior.

Overseas Club Meets

School children were present with their mothers at the August meeting of the British Women’s Overseas Club in St. Matthew’s Hall. Anne and Lorraine Charlesworth recited.

Sales from a plant and produce stall supervised by Mesdames Powell and Oliver augmented club funds.

A new member, Mrs Handley, Sussex, was welcomed.

A sketch was presented by Mesdames Charlesworth, B. McDonald and T. Stuart. A competition was won by Mesdames Herries and J. Sunley. Mrs Herries was also holder of the lucky cup.

Members were reminded of the annual meeting of the society on September 24.

Margaret Stuart Talks on Cardiff To Overseas Club

Miss Margaret Stuart entertained the British Women’s Overseas Club at their annual social with a talk on Cardiff and the Empire Games. She illustrated her talk with coloured slides,

This was of particular interest to Mrs. Sunley, the vice-president, whose home was in Cardiff, and Margaret visited many of her friends.

Margaret’s mother, Mrs Stuart, is on the committee, her grandmother, Mrs Horne, is the club’s oldest member, and two of her aunts are also members.

The club was also entertained by the Mahora Mother’s Club with a sketch – “Operation Flapperjacker” produced by Mrs. H. Harding, and written by Mrs. Z. Houston.

A competition organised by Mrs. Snell, was won by Miss T. Horne and Mr R. Snell.

Another competition was won by Mrs. Tibbenham.

Mrs. Wainscott presided.

British Overseas Club Holds Christmas Party

The British Women’s Overseas Club’s Christmas Party was held recently at St. Matthew’s Hall.

Mrs Wainscott presided over a large attendance of members. There was community singing of carols and songs of the British Isles accompanied by Mrs Whitehouse.

Hilarious guessing games organised by Mrs Charlesworth and Mrs Mason were enjoyed by all.

Mrs Harbottle entertained with songs. A musical party game was won by Mrs Irvine, and a competition by Mrs Birchmore. The lucky cup is held by Mrs Whitehouse.

An exchange of gifts and supper concluded a happy evening.
