Post-Graduate Nurses Get Diplomas

“The nurses post-graduate school is approaching a great landmark in its history”, said the Minister of Health (Mr. Mason), addressing the school’s nursing students before presenting diplomas to those passing out this morning.  “A total of nine hundred and ninety-two nurses have now passed through here, and we are looking forward to the one thousandth student.”

“The roll of sixteen when the school opened in 1928 compares with the sixty-two students this year,” he said.

The standard of education available at the school had attracted students from overseas.  Five students under the Colombo Plan and one under the World Health Organisation had attended this year’s course.

Other speakers were Dr. C. J. Adcock and Dr. A. E. Fieldhouse, of Victoria University, Mr. K. M. White, of the Teachers’ Training College, and the president of the Students’ Committee (Miss M. Todd).

Among those present were the director, Division of Nursing (Miss F. J. Cameron), the matron-in-chief, Wellington Hospital (Miss I. Tolerton), Dr. and Mrs. T. B. Turbott, the retired Director of Nursing (Miss M. I. Lambie), the deputy Director of Nursing (Miss A. A. H. Orbell), and Mrs. M. Pickard, who represented the Registered Nurses’ Association.
