Club presentation

The founder of the British Women’s Overseas Club, Hastings, Mrs Malcolm Mason, presented a travelling bag to Mrs Oliver a member who is returning to Lancashire on April 5, at the annual meeting recently.

Mrs L. H. Wainscott, vice-president, presided at the meeting.

The secretary and treasurer presented reports on the year’s activities.

Mrs K. Mason was elected president for the coming year.

Mrs Stuart won the lucky cup, a word game was won by Mrs Sunley and Mrs K. Mason won another competition.

Members stood in silence in memory of the late Mrs. I. Penman.

Overseas club members retire

The president of the British Women’s Overseas Club, Mrs K. Mason, presented sprays to three retiring members at the 15th annual birthday party in St. Matthew’s Hall, Hastings, recently.

The were Mrs S. Charlesworth, retiring president, Mrs E. Isaacson, retiring treasurer, and Mrs T, Stuart, who completed 11 consecutive years as a committee member.

Election of officers: President, Mrs K. Mason; vice-president, Mrs S. Charlesworth; secretary, Mrs H. Wilson, treasurer, Mrs H. Middleton; committee, Mesdames Wainscott, Walker, Irvine, Hayes, Harbottle, Fasnacht, Misses M. Horne and E. Wilson; hospital visitor, Mrs J. Frew.

Women’s club see overseas films

Members of the British Women’s Overseas Club were entertained at the June meting by Mr and Mrs B. L. Chambers, Havelock North, who showed films they had taken in England and Scotland.

The president, Mrs K. Mason, presented Mrs Chambers with a spray and wished both Mr and Mrs Chambers “bon voyage” on their forthcoming visit to the United Kingdom.

Mrs W. Thompson won a competition, and Mrs H. W. Wilson was the winner of the lucky cup.

Overseas club entertained

Members’ children were the guests at a recent afternoon meeting of the British Women’s Overseas Club. Mrs K. Mason presided.

Piano solos were played by Jocelyn and Diana Mardon; Elaine Lincoln gave a piano accordion item.

Lindsay Evans and Anne Taylor were the winners of the children’s quiz. Other competitions were won by Lorraine Charlesworth and Mrs Claughton.

Miss J. Grant spoke on the history and development of ballet dancing. Graduated exercises were shown by three of her pupils, Barbara Sowman, Delyth Sunley and Anne Taylor.

A plants stall was organised by Mesdames Irvine and Grahame, and Miss Wilson.

Members stood in silence as a mark of respect to the late Mrs Eyles.

Club social tonight

The annual social of the British Women’s Overseas Club will be held tonight at St. Matthew’s Hall, Hastings.

The club has now been in existence for 15 years, and will celebrate tonight with items and games, and an address by Dr E. J. Velvin.

Anyone who was born in Great Britain is eligible for membership. The club was formed to give newcomers to the country the chance to make friends.

Overseas club enjoys social

The president of the British Women’s Overseas Club, Mrs K. Mason, extended a special welcome to new arrivals from Britain at the club’s annual social.

The programme was opened by Mrs M. Hayes who sang two songs, accompanied by Mrs Wainscott. Mrs O. Andrews recited.

The Central Kindergarten Mothers’ Club presented a sketch, followed by items from the Stortford Lodge Townwomen’s Guild’s Skiffle group.September 1961

Mrs R. Plank sang two songs, accompanied by Mrs Wright. Dr E. J. Velvin spoke on a recent visit to Japan.

Overseas Club’s Christmas party

Mrs S. Charlesworth, vice-president of the British Women’s Overseas Club, welcomed members and visitors to the annual Christmas party which was held recently at St Matthew’s Hall, Hastings.

Vocal items were given by Mrs J. Harbottle and Mrs W. McDonald, accompanied by Mrs Louie.

A musical quiz, devised by Mrs T. Whitehouse, was won by Mrs Charlesworth.

A competition, arranged by Mrs Charlesworth, was won by Mrs Carding.

Charades were followed by the exchange of Christmas gifts.
