Overseas club’s annual meeting

Mrs R. Mason, president of the British Women’s Overseas Club, welcomed four new members to the annual meeting recently.

Mrs J. MacLean, recently returned from a trip to the United Kingdom, was welcomed back.

Mrs Mason paid special tribute to the late Mrs B. Grahame, [Mrs D. Graham] a foundation member and tireless worker for the club.

Mrs H. Wilson, secretary, reported on the year’s activities, and Mrs Middleton presented the treasurer’s report.

Mrs Mason was re-elected president, and a new committee was appointed.

Mesdames Smitheran, Matheson and Miss Robinson were competition winners.

Overseas club’s 16th birthday

Mrs K. Mason, president of the British Women’s Overseas Club, welcomed old and new members to the club’s 16th birthday celebrated recently at the St Matthew’s guild room.

Presentations were made to retiring committee members, with a special tribute to Mrs L. H. Wainscott, who has retired after holding office continually since the club’s inception.

Miss Maureen Brady, accompanied by Mrs M. Bell, sang three songs.

Games and competition winners were Mesdames Tuckwell, Fox, H. Mason and Esler.

The birthday cake was cut by Mrs Malcolm Mason, the club’s founder.

Officers elected were: President, Mrs K. Mason; vice-presdent, Mrs S. Charlesworth; secretary, Mrs M. Sowman; assistant-secretary, Mrs J. Harbottle; treasurer, Mrs E. Issacson; assistant-treasurer, Mrs E. Irvine; committee, Mesdames C. E. Carding, Franklin, J. A. Walker and Miss E. Wilson.

Overseas club meets

Mrs K. Mason presided over the August meeting of the British Women’s Overseas Club which was held at St Matthew’s Guild Room.

Members and their children were entertained to a play presented by girls of the Hastings Junior Group Theatre directed by Mrs Dorothy Buck.

Various games and competitions were won by, (children) Jacqueline Mason, John Brown, Karen Cooper, Catherine Anderson; (members) Mrs Massie and Mrs Harbottle.

A plant and white elephant stall was held.

Silence was observed in memory of foundation member Mrs A. Oliver.

Obituary

Mrs W. Oliver

Mrs Alice Oliver, wife of the late Mr W. Oliver, Lyndon Road West, Hastings, died in England recently. Mrs Oliver was an active member of the British Women’s Overseas Club for many years.

Overseas club’s social evening

Mrs K. Mason welcomed members and visitors to a social evening of the British Women’s Oversea Club which was held recently in St Matthew’s Guild Room.

Silence was observed in memory of a foundation member, Mrs E. Horne.

Mr and Mrs B. L. Chambers, Havelock North, showed films of a recent trip they made to the United Kingdom, Scandinavia, Italy, South Africa and Western Australia.

A competition was won by Mrs Sant.

Overseas club has Christmas celebration

The British Women’s Oversea Club held their Christmas party recently in the guild room St Matthew’s Church, Hastings. The meeting was presided over by Mrs K. Mason who welcomed newcomers from the United Kingdom.

A game of musical bag was enjoyed by all. A competition organised by Mrs Charlesworth was won by Mrs Molloy. The lucky cup was won by Miss Robinson, and another competition by Mrs Westhall. Carols by fairy lights and supper wound up the evening.
