British Women’s Overseas Club

Mrs S. Charlesworth, vice-president, welcomed a large attendance at the annual general meeting of the British Women’s Overseas Club recently.

A roll call was held during which members described memories of the Queen’s visit.

Competitions were won by Mesdames J. McDonald and Ferbrache.

Officers were elected as follows: – President Miss Edith Bannister, vice-President Mrs K. Mason; secretary, Mrs M. Sowman; treasurer, Mrs E. Isaacson; committee Mesdames Bannister, Carding, Christopherson, Harbottle, Massie, Neilson, Paviour Smith, Walker, and Miss Moore.

Overseas club’s 17th birthday

The vice president of the British Women’s Oversea Club, Mrs K. Mason, welcomed a large gathering of old and new members to the 17th birthday party held recently at St. Matthew’s Hall, Hastings.

The retiring committee was thanked for their services to the club and gifts were presented to Mrs K. Mason who retired after two years as president and to Mrs F [S]. Charlesworth in recognition of eight years on the committee.

Songs were sung by Mrs Hayes, accompanied by Mrs Wainscott. Competitions were won by Mesdames Lange and A. Young.

British Women’s Overseas Club

Children and grandchildren of members of the British Women’s Overseas Club were guests at an afternoon meeting in Hastings recently.

The vice-president, Mrs A. Mason, welcomed the visitors and introduced a special programme.

Piano solos were played by Stephanie Wing and Adrienne Wing, and Bridget Allen gave a tap dance.

Games were arranged by Mrs Christophersen and won by Dorothy Brown, Christine Carding, Barbara Cato and Delyth Sunley.

A plant stall was arranged by Mrs Massie and Mrs Bannister.

Competition winners were Mesdames Carpenter, Malloy and Wallace.

Overseas Club’s annual social

The entertainment at the annual social of the British Women’s Overseas Club in Hastings was provided by Messrs L. W. Willoughby and L. Hinder, “Fun and Magic,” Mr T. Heighway with his sketchboard and Mr J. van Panhuys with his accordion.

Community singing was accompanied by Mrs Marie Whitehouse and a solo was sung by Miss Janet Moore.

Miss Edith Bannister, president of the club, welcomed guests.

A competition was won by Mrs Bennett.

Club pays tribute to former member

At the British Women’s Overseas Club’s Christmas party held in St Matthew’s Guild room, members stood in silence in memory of Mrs L. A. Christophersen, a foundation member who served on the first committee elected in 1946. The president, Miss Edith Bannister, and Mrs L. H. Wainscott, a past president, paid tribute to Mrs Christophersen.

The exchange of Christmas gifts was followed by games, competitions and guitar items by David Keighley and Stephen Beattie. A Christmas cake, donated by Mrs Massie was cut by Mrs Lack.

Presentations were made to Miss Bannister, who is leaving shortly on a trip to England, and to Miss Janet Moore, who is soon to be married.
