Mrs L. Franklin

Mrs Elizabeth Franklin, a foundation member of the Hastings Old Folks’ Association, died in Hastings yesterday. She was 76.

Mrs Franklin was born in Scotland in 1887 and came to New Zealand when she was 21. Two years later she married Lawrence Franklin, Mangateretere. He farmed at Otane, Morrinsville and later Te Aroha before retiring to settle with his wife in Hastings. He died three months ago.

Mrs Franklin was president and secretary of many clubs. She took an active interest in the Mothers’ Union, Women’s Institute and Women’s Overseas Club for many years. She was also a member of both the Hastings and Kia Toa Bowling Clubs.

She was a keen gardener. She also did much knitting for the patriotic societies.

Mrs Franklin had one daughter, Maude, who died aged 22.
