[March 1965]

New president and three new officers elected

A new president and three new committee members were elected at the annual meeting of the British Women’s Overseas Club.

The new president is Mrs J. F. Massie and the new committee members are Mesdames A. Bennett, N. Dagg and A. Mayberry.

Other officers: Vice-president, Miss E. Bannister; committee, Mesdames E. Isaacson, M. Sowman, S. Taylor, W. Neilson, W. Bannister, N. Mundie, and M. Smith.

Miss E. Bannister presided.

A competition was won by Mrs C. Ferbrache. The lucky cup and the lucky seat were both won by Mrs B. Blaker.

19th birthday celebrations

The 19th birthday of the British Women’s Overseas club was celebrated at the April meeting.

The president, Mrs J. F.  Massie, welcomed a large gathering.

Sprays were presented to retiring hospital visitor, Mrs J. McLean, and the retiring committee, Mesdames J. Harbottle, C. Carding, R. Paviour and J. Walker. A presentation was made to the retiring president, Miss E. Bannister, and to the retiring secretary, Mrs M. Sowman.

Members gave their best wishes to Mrs J. Sunley who is leaving for a trip round the world.

Entertainment was provided by members of the evening circle of the Mahora Townswomen’s Guild, Mrs D. McNeilly played the accompaniment while the choir sang two brackets of songs. Mrs E. Foddy recited humorous monologues and Mrs J. Taggart gave a sketch, “Can the Leopard?”

Children entertained at meeting

Members’ children were entertained at the recent British Women’s Overseas Club

The winners of the competitions were. – Paul Taylor, Beverley Moscrope [Moscrop] and Jane Taylor.

The winning parents were Mrs M. Bannister, Mrs J. Walker and Mrs D. Wright.

Mrs C. Crabbe sang a bracket of songs.

A plant and white elephant stall was conducted by Mrs M. Bannister and Mrs N. Mundie.

Club’s annual social draws big gathering

A very large gathering of members and their friends attended the British Women’s Overseas Club’s annual social held in St Matthew’s Hall.

Mr W. Christian, of the National Airways Corporation, showed two films on Britain which were of special appeal to the audience. Members of the Post Office Women’s Association entertained with a sketch entitled “Crossed Wires,” and a musical programme devised by Mrs N. Dagg.

Sprays were presented to the performers by the club president, Mrs J. F. Massie, who also gave two Scottish monologues.

A competition was won by Mrs E. Parker. Mrs A. Young won the lucky cup and Mrs E. Irvine the lucky seat.

British Women’s Overseas Club

The Christmas meeting of the British Women’s Overseas Club held in St Matthew’s Guild room, was well attended.

Members exchanged Christmas gifts, sang carols accompanied by Mrs J. Whitehouse and played party games.

Mr Joe Woodham and Mr David Smith entertained.

Mrs J. Walker cut the Christmas cake which was made by the president, Mrs J.F. Massie.

The toast was proposed by the club’s founder Mrs Malcolm Mason.

One minute’s silence was observed in memory of a foundation member, the late Mrs Ann Anderson.

A competition was won by Mrs J. Walker.
