Newspaper Article 1968 – Bone too good

Bone too good

(N.Z. Press Association)

WANGANUI, This day Tony Bone (Hawke’s Bay) was too good for the opposition in the second division of the senior singles at the Jury Cup rowing regatta on the Wanganui river today.

Bone romped away to win in a time 12s faster than that of Don Gordon who, rowing for Waikato, won the first division by four lengths.

The Aramoho club was defending the Jury Cup against crews from Wellington, Waikato, Hawke’s Bay and Taranaki.

A surprise victory by Aramoho’s John Belliss and Graeme Lawrence, in the senior coxless pairs, provided the early highlight.

They finished the 2000 metres in a fast 6m 55s on an outgoing tide. Mexico Olympic Games representatives, W. Cole and R. Collinge, representing Hutt, could only finish fourth.
