[March 1968]

New officers for British women’s club

A new president, and five new committee members were elected at the annual meeting of the British Women’s Overseas Club in the St Matthew’s Guild Room, Hastings.

Officers elected were: –

President: Mrs K. Mason; vice-president, Mrs M. Sowman; secretary, Mrs E. Mason; treasurer, Mrs E. Isaacson; committee, Mesdames C. Carding, B. Coleman, N. Dagg, J. Harvey, A. Lowe, A. Martin, J. Massie, A. Mayberry, T. Stuart and S. Taylor.

Floral sprays were presented to the retiring president, Mrs M. Sowman, and the retiring secretary and treasurer, Mesdames J. Sunley and L. Wainscott.

A bring-and-buy stall was organised by Mesdames Dagg, Harvey, Lowe and Martin.

A competition was won by Mrs E. Irvine.

Overseas club’s birthday party

A colour film of the coronation was shown at the 22nd birthday party of the British Women’s Overseas club in the St Matthew’s guild room, Hastings.

Mrs W. Schoemack, accompanied by Mrs H. Louis sang two songs.

A presentation was made to the president, Mrs K. Mason, who leaves shortly for a visit to Britain.

A game was won by Mrs J. Brown and a competition by Mrs T. Stuart.

The birthday cake, made by Mrs J. Malloy, was cut by the retiring president, Mrs M. Sowman.

The lucky cup holder was Mrs S. Charlesworth.

Demonstration of spinning

A spinning demonstration was given by Mrs Pamela Simcox at the June meeting of the British Women’s Overseas Club in the Red Cross Rooms, Hastings

Members stood in silence as a tribute to the late Canon K. Button.

Several new members were welcomed by the vice-president, Mrs M. Sowman, who took the chair at the meeting.

A competition was won by Mrs I. D. Osborne.

Slides of London shown to club

Coloured slides of London and the West Country were shown by Miss Pauline Tyers at the July meeting of the British Women’s Overseas Club.

Miss Tyers recently visited Britain and the continent for 12 months. She was thanked for her talk by the president, Mrs K. Mason, and presented with a spray.

A competition was won by Mrs J. Brown.

Talk given on beauty care

A talk on beauty care for the mature skin was given by Miss Lois Kirkman at the afternoon meeting of the British Women’s Overseas Club, held in St Matthew’s Guild room, Hastings.

Miss Kirkman demonstrated make-up techniques on two members.

She was thanked by the president Mrs K. Mason, and presented with flowers and a gift.

Several new members were welcomed to the meeting.

A competition was won by Miss F. Melanie [Melonie] and the lucky cup was held by Mrs Thelwall.

Visit to Disneyland

A visit to Disneyland was described by the president, Mrs K. Mason, at a recent meeting of the British Women’s Overseas Club.

Other members described their trips.

Several new members were welcomed to the club.

British women’s club party

More than 60 members and three new members of the British Women’s Overseas Club attended a Christmas party held in St Matthew’s Guild Room, Hastings, recently.

The president, Mrs K. Mason, made presentations to Mrs C. Grey and her daughter Miss J. Grey, who are returning to Scotland, and to Mrs A. Coles, who is to live in Australia.

Floral sprays were presented to 10 members whose birthdays occurred during the month.

Members stood in silence in memory of two past members, Mesdames C. Walker and E. Velzian.

Committee members, lead by Mrs N. Dagg, entertained with songs and dances. Competitions were held and members exchanged Christmas gifts. Accompanist for the singing of carols was Mrs S. Smith.

The Christmas cake, made by Mrs M. Massie, was cut by the club’s founder, Mrs V. Mason.
