(N.Z. Press Association)

Tony Bone, of Hawke’s Bay, won the senior single sculls at the Wellington provincial rowing championships on Saturday.

A top contender for a national title, Bone did not jump the senior singles field until the last 500 metres. He went on to beat Garret and Brown by four lengths.

More than 190 entries competed at the regatta on the Koro Koro course and honours were evenly shared among the local clubs.

Petone took the Watties Cup for most points from the holder, Star.

Hutt Valley convincingly won the senior fours, Wellington the eights and Star and Wellington tied for most points in the senior events.
