Club elects new committee

A new president and committee were elected at an evening meeting of the British Womn’s [Women’s] Overseas Club in Hastings.

The committee for the year is.-

President, Mrs K. Mason; vice-president, Mrs E. G. Coppard; secretary, Mrs H. W. Wilson; treasurer, Mrs E. Isaacson; committee, Mesdames E. Butterfield, G. Cheshire, N. C. Dagg, E. M. Irvine, J. Massie, Miss E. Bannister and Miss E. Wilson; afternoon committee, Mesdames H. G. Fry, A. Martin, T. Stuart and T. Whitehouse; hospital visitor, Mrs S. Charlesworth.

Sprays were presented to the retiring president, Mrs E. G. Coppard, the retiring vice-president, Mrs S. Charlesworth, and four retiring committee members.

Dried flower work shown

A demonstration of dried floral arrangements was given by Mrs W. Dagg at the Hastings branch of the British Women’s Overseas Club meeting.

Mrs Dagg also showed members how to make unusual Christmas table decorations and novelties.

The president, Mr A [Mrs K] Mason, thanked Mrs Dagg and presented her with a small gift.

A new member, Mrs J. Rawlings, was welcomed from Bucks, England.

Cake decorating demonstrated

A demonstration of cake decorating was given by Miss K Stubbs, Hastings, at the monthly meeting of the British Women’s Overseas Club.

Miss Stubbs was thanked and presented with a small gift by the vice-president, Mrs J. Charlesworth.

Visit to Israel described

A visit to Israel was described by the Rev. Edgar Hornblow at an evening meeting of the British Women’s Overseas Club, held in St Matthew’s GFS Room, Hastings.

Mr Hornblow and his family explored Jerusalem and other places in the Holy Land on their way home from a year’s exchange with a Methodist minister in Seattle, U.S.

Coloured slides showed scenes scarcely changed since biblical times, contrasted with situations of conflict and tension in present-day Israel. Slides were also shown of the Hornblow family’s stay in Seattle.

The president, Mrs K. Mason, presented Mr Hornblow with a small gift.

Mrs Mason outlined plans for the Christmas dinner to be held on November 28.
