Mrs Marjorie Wainscott dies

Mrs Marjorie Wainscott, a founder of the Hastings British Women’s Overseas Club, died in Hastings yesterday.

Mrs Wainscott was the wife of Mr Lionel Wainscott, a former president of Hastings Rotary and owner of Apex Panelbeaters.

When her husband was Rotary’s president during 1971-72, Mrs Wainscott presided over the Ladies of Rotary circle. She also actively supported the Masonic Lodge, of which Mr Wainscott is a member.

Mrs Wainscott was long a member of the Hastings Group Theatre and Hawke’s Bay Musica Viva.

She was also a member of the private women’s club, the Hawke’s Bay Community Club.

The Wainscotts migrated from England 36 years ago and lived in Eastbourne and Lower Hutt before coming to Hastings in 1945.
