Newspaper Article 1975 – Oldest Driver

Drivers over 70 years of age are taking their annual tests this month, and the oldest driver in Central Hawke’s [Bay] is still the oldest driver.

Yesterday Mr J. Edward, Farm Rd, Waipukurau, who is 90, passed his driving test.

Mr Edward said he has been driving for over 40 years. He obtained his first car in 1932. He has also been in the district for more than 40 years. He has 23 great-grandchildren with “more on the way,” he said.

Pictured with Mr Edward yesterday morning after the successful test is Waipukurau’s traffic officer, Mr D. M. Crowley.
