$3500 given to replace Waikoko

Although a fund has not yet been opened $3500 has been given to the Hawke’s Bay A and P Society to replace the historic Waikoko House which was destroyed by fire on Monday.

Two grandsons of the man who built Waikoko House, Messrs Eric and Leslie Nelson, each gave $1000 to the society the day after the fire and now the eldest grand-daughter of William Nelson, Mrs E. C. Horne, had given $500.

A further $1000 has been given by Mr A. J. Anderson of J. N. Anderson and Son, nurseries.

The society will hold a special meeting on Tuesday to decide if Waikoko House should be replaced.
