Newspaper Article 1979 – New senior advisory officer

New senior advisory officer

Mr Barrie Wallace, a horticultural advisory officer with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries in Hastings for the last three years, has been appointed senior advisory officer.

The appointment was announced by Mr Noel Congdon, the regional advisory officer with the MAF in Hastings.

Mr Wallace’s appointment will involve more work from the ministry headquarters in Railway Rd rather than out in the field.

Mr Wallace will now be responsible for the Hastings sub-region which includes Masterton and Dannevirke.

Mr Wallace joined the Ministry in Hastings in July, 1976, after working in Christchurch, Roxburgh and Central Otago.

He completed his Bachelor of Horticulture degree at Lincoln College in 1964 and returned in 1969 to complete a postgraduate course.

A previous job with W. Gregg and Co. Ltd, Dunedin, also involved Mr Wallace working in Rarotonga and Australia for parts of the year.

Mr Wallace is a chairman of a panel of advisory officers responsible for reporting to the Minister of Agriculture on the latest developments in the horticultural field.

His former position will be filled by Mr Gary Wood, who joined the Ministry in Hastings last year after being transferred from Dunedin.
