Farms for sale

Messrs Don Macdonald and Charlie Anderton, the men who bought Mangatarata Station, Waipukurau, at public auction last Friday, are now selling their own farms.

The two men, who plan to farm Mangatarata as a partnership, paid $605 an acre for the 2524-acre station – a total of more than $1.5 million.

Mr Macdonald farms 829 acres under the ranges at Wakarara, while Mr Anderton runs 1124 acres along Farm Road from Waipukurau. The Wakarara property will come under the hammer on April 22 and Mr Anderton’s on May 6, both at Waipukurau.

Mangatarata Station includes a six bedroom homestead, three-bedroom houses, large shearers’ quarters, a six-stand woolshed and hay barns with storage space for 10,000 bales.

Mr Macdonald is the great-grandson of James Macdonald, who leased part of Mangatarata in 1908, and the son-in-law of Mr Anderton.
