Entry to the 9th New Zealand Scout Jamboree campsite at Tomoana will be controlled through three checkpoints.

There will be checkpoints at either end of the stretch of Ellwood Rd between Karamu Rd and the Tomoana Freezing Works.

Ellwood Rd will be closed to normal traffic.

The third checkpoint will be operated inside the showgrounds on the roadway leading from Kenilworth Rd to the grandstand – the main entrance to the 48-hectare campsite.

The showground golf course will remain open and golfers will have usual access to the course, the jamboree’s director of general services Hastings police Chief Inspector John Perring said.

Members of the public visiting the jamboree will be able to park their cars in Kenilworth Rd, which will remain open to normal traffic, and in nearby streets, said Mr Perring.

Some parking may be provided within the closed length of Ellwood Rd which will be mostly used for buses and emergency and service vehicles.

Mr Perring said there would definitely be no entry through the showground’s gate son Karamu Rd.

A limited amount of day and permanent parking would be provided along the railway line, off Kenilworth Rd, for volunteers working at the jamboree, he said.

Visitors hours will be between 10am and 5pm from this Saturday, when the jamboree opens, till Saturday January 10.

On “J” Day, next Wednesday, these hours will be extended, with the camp being open to the public from 9am.

Visitors information centres will be near the main entrance.
