HB personalities judge

Well-known Hawke’s Bay personalities feature in the judging panel for the regional final at Waipukurau on Friday of the Skellerup young farmer of the year contest.

Each of the 10 contestants will be interviewed by Sir John Ormond, Waipukurau, who became known worldwide as the chairman of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board.

The judges of the competition in the evening will be the president of Hawke’s Bay Federated Farmers and member of the Hawke’s Bay Harbour Board, Mr Ewan McGregor, Hautope, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries senior farm advisory officer in Hastings, Mr Bill Crawford, and Central Hawke’s Bay veterinarian, Mr Bert Middleberg.

Competition for the 10 contestants start with a briefing at noon on Mr John Jamieson’s farm.  It is on the Ongaonga Rd off the Ashcott Rd.

The contestants have been advised by the organiser of the final, Mr Brian Kirk to bring work type clothes and gum boots for a few farm jobs.

Each would be asked to complete an every day farm task.  Each task would have a judge familiar with the task.

Up to nine judges would be appointed to the judging panel for farm tasks.

Another judge was to be appointed to adjudicate the interviews with Sir John.
