Fun and shopping bargains for all

Hastings Centrepoint retailers are taking advantage of New Zealand’s successes in the America’s Cup by holding a “Sailing into “87” market day tomorrow.

Mr Bruce Giorgi, a spokesman, said the market day would take on a nautical flavour with retailers and their staff dressing up in sailing garb or casual summer clothes.

The Heretaunga St East block between Russell St and Karamu Rd will be closed to traffic from 8.30am to 8pm so retailers can take over the street and set up their stalls, he said.

A feature of the carnival day will be “Centrepoint Gourmet.”

Various retailers will set up food bars ranging from a satay barbecue, hamburgers, and health food salads, to hot dogs, sausage sizzle and even wine tasting.

The 35 retailers will also be providing a host of prizes to winners of the lucky shopper tickets which will be drawn every hour on the hour, said Mr Giorgi.

Razzle Dazzle the clown will be performing throughout the afternoon and give away balloons and sweets to the children.

A merry-go-round will also provide rides for children and there will be a puppet show while parents are shopping.

Two bathing costume contests are to be held with the children’s being judged at 11am and the adults at 3pm. Retailers are providing a wardrobe of clothing as prizes.

A folk singing busker will entertain all in the morning.
