School art on display

The Dominion school art exhibition for 1987-88 is on show at the Hastings City Cultural Centre until Sunday, February 14.

This annual exhibition, sponsored by the Dominion newspaper, contains 250 items of art and craft selected from primary, intermediate and secondary schools in the lower North Island.

Hawke’s Bay schools are well represented this year, with 13 works from Napier Central School, Kowhai Special School, Hastings, Pakowhai School, Richmond School, St Patrick’s School and Te Mata School, Havelock North.

“There is something profoundly captivating in the creative works of a child; an uncluttered mind free to express and interpret the things they see with whatever resources are available that is the essence of their charm,” said Patrick McKenna, administrator of the Wairarapa Arts Centre who organised the selection of the works to go on tour.
