Newspaper Article 1994 – Cushing named commercial director

Cushing named commercial director

Hawke’s Bay businessman Selwyn Cushing has been appointed a commercial director of the Apple and Pear Marketing Board.

Agriculture Minister John Falloon has confirmed the appointment of Mr Cushing and the reappointment of existing commercial directors John Paynter, also of Hastings, and Bridget Wickham.

Mr Cushing is chairman of ECNZ and a director of NZ Rural Properties.

Mr Paynter, managing director of the Johnny Appleseed group of companies in Hawke’s Bay and a director of NZ Post, is a former grower member of the board, but has been a government appointee since 1988.

As a director of investor relations for Carter Holt Harvey in Auckland, Ms Wickham specialised in financial and economic research and analysis of companies. She was first appointed in 1992.

Board chairman John McCliskie said changes to the board’s Act had increased the number of directors from six to seven and altered the way they were appointed.
