Newspaper Article 1994 – Descendants get together

Descendants get together

Donald MacErlich, Taradale, holding Callum Loh, and Donald’s cousin Meta Freebairn, Palmerston North, holding James Loh, are pictured at a MacErlich family reunion in Hastings at the weekend.

The Loh twins are from Hobart, Australia.

Donald’s aunt, Maggie Ainsworth, nee MacErlich, was the first child of Isabella and Donald MacErlich to migrate to New Zealand from Fort William, Scotland, after the First World War.

In the years that followed, most of her 12 brothers and sisters joined her in Hastings, including Donald’s father, John.

Mrs Freebairn, 90, a daughter of Maggie, was given the honour of cutting the reunion cake, being the oldest descendant at the reunion, attended by 149 people.
