Newspaper Article 1994 – New face for police station

New face for police station: This will be the new face of the Hastings police station when extensions are finished in mid-October. Designed by Works Consultancy – architect Dave Ironside, the extension is being built in front of the original building in Railway Rd in an area used as gardens. Senior Sergent [Sergeant] Dave Stevenson said the $500,000 extension would be used for customer service – the same function as the public counter at the Lyndon Rd headquarters. “It will mean the public won’t be sent back and forth from one place to another anymore,” Snr Sgt Stevenson said. The extension will also mean new office conditions for the station’s around-the-clock frontline staff, he said. While the public only sees work at the front of the building, a smaller extension is also under construction at the back. It will be used for testing people suspected of drink-driving.
