Pensioner’s planting produces pineapple

Hastings pensioner Henry Millett has grown a neapple [pineapple] in the garden of his York St flat. Three yeas go, [ago] Mr Millett cut the top off a pineapple and planted it in [the] ground. Now it is bearing fruit. Mr Millett said he was mazed [amazed] that the plant grew. Redgrave Garden Centre owner Ricardo de Treend said it was quite an achievement to grow a pineapple from a top outdoors, especially to bear fruit. It would be a lot easier to grow indoors where there was no risk of frost, Mr Treend said.
