Charity auction raises $4500

The Hastings Rotary Club’s charity auction on Saturday raised between $4500 and $5000, club president John Peryer said today.

The money raised will go toward buying a van for the Hastings police to use in school education programmes, such as Dare, and a driving and road safety programme.

“Without the support of the public, both in donating goods and bidding at the auction, it would not have been the success it was,” said convenor Brian Epplett.

As well as the usual items found at auctions, including barbecues, there was a piano and several large Chinese fans.

“We’re also grateful to the auctioneers Jim Harvey and Lou David who gave their time,” Mr Epplett said.

Although the auction was a success with most items sold, the club will need another project to raise all the money needed for the van. The club has not decided what that project will be.
