Newspaper Article 1995 – Labour of love

Labour of love

Tom Wheeler, Havelock North, has finished writing his first book called All Aboard Hawke’s Bay Railway.

Mr Wheeler spent 18 months researching and writing the 150-page book which will go on sale at selected bookshops within the next two weeks.

The book looks at the history of the 40 railway stations and yards between Ahuriri and Woodville and includes over 100 photographs.

The history of railway stations and trains has been a hobby for Mr Wheeler, who once had the opportunity to drive a train from Hastings to Napier.

“I actually did not get there as I derailed it at Whakatu and had to walk home,” said Mr Wheeler.

The first print run of the book is limited to 250.
