Newspaper Article 1995 – Molly Thompson

Molly Thompson, 84, moved into the three-roomed cottage near Otane, pictured above, just before Christmas after it was renovated by her daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Maitland Manning.

Last Tuesday it was burnt and the picture below shows all that was left.

Mrs Thompson lost all her belongings in the fire, which is thought to have been started by hot ashes which blew back from the garden.

The heart timber tongue-in-groove cottage, which was moved to its present site at Homewood, half a kilometre from Otane, was about 100 years old.
