Newspaper Article 1996 – Michael and Jenny

Michael & Jenny

Out-going President of the Havelock North Rotary Club, Michael Poppelwell, is pictured at left, with the Minister of Health, Jenny Shipley, at a recent meeting of the Probus Club members of Havelock North and members of associated Hastings Rotary Clubs, at Saddles Restaurant.

Mrs Shipley spoke about what it is like to be a woman in Parliament and Michael says she spoke freely (there were no members of the press present) in an informative and interesting way with the assembled 210 guests having a chance to ask questions.

This Friday, Michael will hand over the office of Rotary president to solicitor Malcolm Walker after a busy and productive year. The change-over ceremony will bring with it a new line-up of officers, so we’ll let you know who they are at a later date.
