California trip ‘was awesome’

Awesome – that was the way most of the members of the Hawke’s Bay Youth Band described their recent tour to California in the United States.

The band toured the state under the baton of conductor John Snowling and realised their dream by strutting their stuff in the magic kingdom itself – Disneyland.

The theme park’s musical told band manager Denis Hibbs, that the youngsters playing of “Stars and Stripes Forever,” was the crispest he had heard from a youth or school band.

Mr Hibbs said musically the band was well received wherever they played.

Standing ovations became the “norm rather than the exception.”

The band’s tour to the United States was two years the planning.
