Information Centre opening

Community minded people form visitors group

CENTRAL Hawkes Bay Unlimited is a group of community minded .people, says president Judy Macdonald.

She said some have a direct interest in the visitor industry, but many simply wish to see an improvement in the Central Hawke’s Bay economy.

The group received $1500 from the Central Hawke’s Bay District Council’s Community Initiatives Fund to establish an Information centre and this money will be spent on running costs, telephone, rent etc. while subscriptions to Central Hawke’s Bay Unlimited will fund the newsletter and stationery costs.

The new information centre will be available as an outlet for tickets to events and for the advertising of events and activities, Mrs Macdonald said.

A calendar of local and regional events will be kept and Mrs Macdonald said groups may wish to build on other events or conversely arrange their event to avoid one previously arranged.

A data base of groups, organisations and activities within the region will be created and built on Mrs Macdonald said.

She said this will be used for example, to find a tutor for someone wanting to learn to play an instrument, or wishing to join a club.

It will also be used to provide information about events for local residents or visitors.
