Third position excites canoe polo players

Sacred Heart College

SARA WILLIAMS

Canoe polo is becoming popular with high school students, combining a variety of sports and tactics. Last weekend, Sacred Heart’s team, coached by Linda Whitlow, competed in a tournament at the Clive Memorial Pool.

The team finished in third position after playing four games over the two-day competition. Ella O’Dowd had some excellent goal shots while Jo Ward made some great saves at the other end of the pool.

The team was also placed third out of seven in this year’s competition. The girls are looking forward to the 2001 season where they will carry with them their new-found knowledge of this increasingly popular sport. Many thanks must go to Mrs Whitlow for all her time and experience.
