Hawke’s Bay Today

Art Deco 2003

Picture special

Hawke’s Bay was alive with the sights, sounds and feel of the 1930s as Napier celebrated the 15th annual Art Deco Weekend.

Vintage cars, vintage planes doing breathtaking aerobatics, boater hats, furs, toe-tapping jazz, gramophones – you name it, you would have seen it in the Bay between February 13 and February 16.

One of the biggest events on the region’s calendar, Art Deco Weekend attracts thousands from throughout New Zealand and overseas, not to mention locals who seem to have just as much fun. Hawke’s Bay Today photographers were on hand to capture of the special moments.

NAPIER’S Bronwyn Smith was one of the winners at the Bathing Belles contest held at Napier’s Sound Shell.
