S.B.A., Small Business Accounting, run by Denis and Margaret Hibbs, is a specialist accountancy service providing small businesses in Hawke’s Bay with detailed financial information normally available only to large companies with in-house accountants.

A franchise of a national group with offices throughout New Zealand, it provides clients ranging from cafes to doctors and commercial handymen, with monthly accounting information vital for business management.

“Accountants’ traditional approach leaves business to their own devises [devices] until the end of year accounts are done, so it’s only then that the operator gets a picture of business performance,” says Denis.

“SBA believes that’s unacceptable.  We gather information and prepare monthly profit and loss statements so adverse trends are addressed as they appear, before they become serious.”

Denis, who applied these principles to his own past small business, can advise on overcoming problems and through the national company, has access to the latest accountancy and taxation information.

The service is not expensive.  Fees begins at $75 plus GST a month, for the full year’s accountancy needs, including GST returns and routine enquiries.

“Our clients know in advance what their accounting fees will be; it helps their budgeting and fits SBA’s concept of providing a total service,” says Denis.

The service also saves time.  It includes monthly transaction recording, so business owners can throw away cashbooks and do what they do best, operate their businesses, leaving the bookwork [to] their accountant.
