Flower show ready to bloom again

Flower arranging, baking, knitting and sewing – it’s time to step back to a simpler time as the Sherenden Flower Show brings the community together.

Organiser Nic Parkes said it had been about 19 years since the show was last held and the organisers wanted to resurrect it.

“It used to be a Women’s Institute tradition of old,” she said. “We thought it might be a good idea to hold it again.”

There had been plenty of interest but they would not know until on the day how many people were entering because weather and flower quality could influence decisions.

“The rural community has been losing that community feel as people get dragged into town for work,” Miss Parkes said. “We try to do things like this to get people out and back in touch with each other.”

For enquiries about entering phone Judy on 874 2776.

It opens at 2pm and entry is a gold coin for adults, with children free. Afternoon tea and raffles will be for sale and craft stalls will be selling their wares.
