Search on for choral singers

The search is on for CHB singers who have been involved with the Hastings Choral Society, ahead of the choir’s 30th anniversary celebrations.

Celebration organiser Eileen von Dadelszen said she was keen to find any choristers living in CHB.

“Over the years, many Central Hawke’s Bay singers have joined – either as individuals or as members of the Central Hawke’s Bay Choir – in singing with the choir and several performances have been given in CHB in 1991, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2013,” she said.

The society was founded in 1986 as a result of many local singers, led by the director, the late Kathleen Barry, singing two very successful concerts in 1985 of Handel’s Messiah to recognise the 300th anniversary of that composer’s birth.

Mrs von Dadelszen said the society has continued to provide opportunities for singers and other musicians and audiences to perform and enjoy concerts of high quality in many different genres over more than 30 years, from classical to popular and folk music.

The society has raised money in support of Hawke’s Bay music students, the HB Opera House, Sacred Heart Church following the fire in 1992 and Cranford Hospice.

The Hastings Choral Society’s next performances – scheduled in August and September under the direction of Joseph Christensen – will be with the Taupo Choral Society, both in Hastings and in Taupo.

A celebration lunch to commemorate the choir’s 30th anniversary celebrations, is planned for Sunday 18 June.
