Bone rower’s Choice for Sportsman of Year

Champion Hawke’s Bay Sculler Tony Bone, is the latest nomination for the Hawke’s Bay Sportsman of the Year award to be decided on November 15.

Bone is the 11th nomination received for the award which is being organised by the Hawke’s Bay Sports Coaches Association.

At the national championships last year Bone, finished second to Murray Watkinson in the single sculls final.

Bone also rowed splendidly in the Test series against Australia, finishing third in the first Test at Karapiro; fourth in the second Test at Wanganui and winning the fourth at Christchurch.

Other Bone victories have been at the Hawke’s Bay regatta; the Wellington and Wanganui championships and in the Rotorua handicap and senior single sculls events.

He was third in the Auckland championships.
